Your Partner Is Not MOOP

Hi Reader,

Every year, building up to Labor Day, tens of thousands of people build a temporary city in the Nevada desert, then take the whole thing apart and leave nothing behind. Not a scrap. There's even a term for anything left on the ground that shouldn't be there: MOOP, Matter Out Of Place.

Leslie (my wife) and I are teaching a session out there this year called Your Partner Is Not MOOP. It's a playful offering for those navigating the dust, but the practice underneath it has nothing to do with the desert.

Here's the real question for you: before you head into any high-stimulation event (a wedding, a festival, a big family gathering, a week away with friends) have you actually said out loud what you want from it? Has your partner? Has the friend you're going with?

Most people don't. They just show up, and by the middle of the night, or the middle of the trip, they've drifted from each other without either one noticing it happened.

Leslie and I are hosting a free, live online version of this practice, open to everyone. We'll walk through naming what you want, hearing what the people you're with need, catching the drift early, and repairing it when it's already happened, before it becomes real distance.

You don't need a partner to come. Twosomes, moresomes, and solo folks curious about the practice are all welcome.

Thursday, August 20, 6:00–7:30pm PT, online. Free, but you'll need to register to get the Zoom link.

Blessings from us both,
Ted & Leslie

In September, my colleague Leslie Grace and I are opening Sacred Journey Into Intimacy again, our one-day couples retreat with a preparatory call and integration call. We have two spots remaining. Reply to this newsletter for more details.
